“Plato once said that “music is a moral law. It gives soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination, and charm and gaiety to life and to everything”. Through this creative partnership between the legal fraternity and our beneficiaries, I hope that it acts as a useful reminder that we can often find commonalities even amongst people with seemingly different backgrounds.”
– Clarice Jena, Juris Doctor Student at SMU

“I signed up for Just Duet to show my support to the Law Society Pro Bono Services as a thank you for helping the migrant worker community here in Singapore gain access to justice, have fair and equal treatment and access to legal services.”
– Jessa Negrillo Rabano, Foreign Domestic Helper

“I signed up for Just Duet as I love music. Learning that this fundraiser was for the Law Society Pro Bono Services’ work, I felt like I was the exact fit to make a great contribution. I hope to be able to spread the message that there are plenty among us who feel that they are alone in their life problems and that free access to help will not only show them they are not alone but also feel that there are people who will understand.”
– Teri Darlene Basallote Yeo, Law Graduate from Griffith University

"I signed up for Just Duet not only to show my talent, but I want to also show my support of the Law Society Pro Bono Services. They help bring free legal assistance to those in need in our community especially the Migrant Workers who cannot afford but need help."
– Ailyn Amparado , Foreign Domestic Helper

“There should be access to justice for everyone here in Singapore, regardless of citizenship, status, race and etc. You are not alone in your struggles as the Law Society Pro Bono Services is your legal duet partner.”
– Ruth Victoria Leong, Regional ASPAC Legal Counsel at bioMerieux

“This year, LSPBS celebrates its 15th birthday and it has also been 15 years since I signed up to represent my first CLAS client (under LSPBS’s purview). It has been a most meaningful and fulfilling journey for me; both as a volunteer with LSPBS’s various pro bono schemes and as a board member. I love to sing, especially songs from bygone eras that no longer get as much airtime these days, so I’m very grateful to have been given an opportunity to do a duet of a classic with my lovely duet partner, Ruth. I am told I would be the oldest performer, so I sincerely hope I can do the music of generations past justice.”
– Tan Cheow Hung, Director at Beacon Law Corporation and on the Board of Law Society Pro Bono Services

“I signed up for Just Duet on a whim. I love singing and I LOVE duets! Since this was for a good cause, it was a no-brainer. My message to everyone listening is that we cannot take our legal systems and infrastructure for granted –organisations like LSPBS are the backbone of access to justice in Singapore and we need to ensure that they are able to achieve their goals, mission, and vision to the fullest extent possible. This responsibility lies with the legal profession – let’s not forget that!”
– Hannah Lim, Head of Rule of Law and Emerging Markets, LexisNexis

“I signed up for Just Duet because I love singing. I haven’t sang on stage for about 20 years, however, so I was hesitant at first. The fact that this concert is raising money for the Law Society’s Pro Bono Services was a big factor for me in deciding to participate. Public service and helping those less fortunate was the reason I became a lawyer and I would like to help in any small way I can!”
– Kate Apostolova, Senior Associate of Disputes, Litigation and Arbitration at Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer

“The work of Law Society Pro Bono Services equips and empowers those who require the protection of the law but who are unable to navigate its complexities unaided. In doing so, it safeguards and
gives effect to the rights of those who may otherwise be unable to assert them. Yet, the capacity of Law Society Pro Bono Services to carry out its good work depends on all of our contributions. By participating in Just Duet, I hope to contribute in my own small way. I also hope that others will be encouraged to do the same.”

– Wesley Chai, Part B Candidate

“I signed up for Just Duet because it presented a unique opportunity for me to be meaningfully involved in pro bono, in a different capacity and while doing what I enjoy (singing) at the same time. Just Duet serves as a timely and important reminder that many others in our community (such as the needy, disadvantaged and our friends in the migrant community) deserve to have their voices heard both on stage and in the legal justice system that we are all part of.”
– Nicholas Tan, Associate at Baker McKenzie Wong & Leow

"Raeza Ibrahim, Director at Salem Ibrahim LLC, and I are firm believers in access to justice, and the Law Society Pro Bono Services is instrumental in ensuring that is achieved for the underprivileged, marginalised and often overlooked segments of our population. We are very honoured to have been invited to perform at this event, and look forward to putting on a good show for a good cause!"

– Arvindran Manoosegaran, Investment Manager at Omni Bridgeway
